Singapore’s wealth is illuminated through its fusion of architectural wonders and green spaces, making it unique and different from neighboring countries. Don’t be fooled by the size of this island, there are so many fun things to do in Singapore. This was our second family trip to this island and we still found new things to do from the first time we visited, and there is still room for at least one more trip. Singapore is one of my favorite Asian cities and the most family-friendly country we have visited.
Traveling to Singapore During Covid19
As of April 1st, 2022, Singapore opened its borders for travelers to enter the country. We wanted to visit a couple of our favorite activities but were closed due to Covid, but there was still a ton to do. There are 3 apps you need to download before you go to Singapore.
- SG Arrival Card. You must fill this out before boarding your plane; this is the health and vaccine declaration form. Once filled out, you will get a “DE Number” and bar code which you will present to the immigration officer.
- Trace Together App. This app keeps track of covid exposure in case you were in the same space with someone that tested positive for Covid19. The Trace Together app links your DE Number from the SG Arrival Card when you enter your passport information. To gain entry to attractions, restaurants, etc., you open the app, scan the QR code and show the attendant to be granted access. The app will give you entry into public areas, i.e., malls, restaurants, attractions, e.t.c. You will need to keep your phone on you with battery life at all times to gain entry into public spaces. As a backup, write down your DE Number to keep in your wallet/purse.
Getting Around in Singapore
Getting from one place to another is only a matter of minutes in Singapore. As soon as you land in Singapore, download the Grab app. You will need this app to request a ride – like Uber. Getting around town is super fast and cheap. In one week, we spent $107 on Grab rides. Also, Singapore has one of the world’s most efficient and clean transit systems, an excellent option for even cheaper transportation.
Things To Do in Singapore With Kids
#1 Garden By The Bay
This beautiful green space is home to the famous Supertree Grove with approximately 12 Supertrees. The tallest tree measures about 16 floors high. This unique work of art weaves natural plants into the structure, both a work of art and a celebration of nature. The Gardens span 101 hectares (0.4 sqmi/ 1 sqkm) in the central city of Singapore. Strolling through the gardens is free. We spent hours in this garden, enjoying the scenery and large structures. Then, we went up to the sky bridge, which was much cooler in temps than the ground (Adult $8 SGD/ Children 5 SGD). The sky bridge gives a different perspective on the Garden view. Note: You can only buy tickets online as the ticket counter is not in use.
#2 Esplanade Theater By The Bay
This one was a pleasant surprise. We walked in to escape the heat and were immediately blown away by the incredible art installations. Esplanade is Singapore’s national performing arts center and one of the busiest arts centers in the world. You will be impressed when walking through this building and discovering hidden art treasures. The Esplanade hosts a series of performances for all ages, many of them free. Definitely plan to attend one of the events while in Singapore.
#3 Jubilee Walk
Jubilee Walk celebrates Singapore’s 50th anniversary since independence. It is an 8km / 5mi trail, starting from the National Museum of Singapore and ending at Marina Barrage. Along the walk is the Merlion Park, home iconic Merlion and the symbol/ mascot of Singapore, merging the symbol of a fish and a lion.
There are 24 landmarks on the Jubilee walk, and we are yet to check them all out. Notable landmarks along the Jubilee Walk are:
- Jubilee Bridge
- Esplanade Theaters on the Bay (#2 up above)
- Helix Bridge
- Gardens By The Bay – Jubilee Walk (#1 up above)
- Marina Barrage (Jubilee Walk)
Check out the Jubilee Walk Map to plan your walk.
#4 Flower Dome and Cloud Forest (Garden By The Bay)
This family-friendly activity was just spectacular! The Flower Dome and Cloud Forest are adjacent, so you do one after the other. The breathtaking and tallest indoor waterfall stuns you as you enter the Cloud Forest. The soft mist from the rainfall is very welcome and refreshing from the hot weather outside. Featured in this lush forest is a stunning orchid garden, elevators to the top of the mountain, and the Cloud Walk for a leisurely descent of the verdant mountain.
The Flower Dome is the smaller of the two domes and has various areas featuring different plant species and regions. Everything flows together as you walk through the dome. It’s reasonably quick to get through and is a nice escape from the outdoor heat. Combined tickets cost $28 SGD per adult and $15 SGD per child. I recommend starting with the Flower Dome before the Cloud Forest.
#5 Floral Fantasy (Garden By The Bay)
Floral Fantasy captures the imagination with suspended bouquets and creative floral arrangements. The space offers an Instagram-worthy background as you meander through the well-designed exhibit. Towards the end of the exhibition is a vivarium populated by tiny poison dart frogs in various stunning hues. Fun fact, Lo had read about these types of frogs the night before and told me all about them while we observed them. The cost to enter the Floral Fantasy was $20 SGD per adult and $12 SGD per child under 12.
#6 The Museum of Ice cream
Prepare to be full belly on ice cream! The Museum of Ice Cream goes through the history of ice cream. It inspires imagination through the universal power of ice cream. The space is a one-way interactive experience with 14 rooms with local and international ice cream flavors. The cost to enter the Museum of Icecream was $40 per person, and the most expensive activity we did in Singapore. Note that the museum location is about 25 minutes outside the city center. Getting there is no problem, but getting back can be challenging but not impossible. I recommend skipping lunch on the day you do this.
We hope this helps you plan your trip to Singapore. We are here to answer your questions; please drop a comment or share this post with friends you know who are planning a trip to Singapore. ❤️
