Detailed Alaska Cruise Adventure Itinerary

Setting Sail from Vancouver

The excitement is palpable as the ship casts off, marked by the ship horns blaring the Love Boat tune, kicking off the Sail Away Party. The sea day that follows provides the perfect opportunity to explore the ship’s amenities.

Ketchikan

Our first port of call was the charming town of Ketchikan. We took a bus from the Cruise pier to Totem Bight Historical State Park for a self guided tour, to get the mist of this experience, I highly recommend booking a tour. Luckily, we joined in on a tour in progress. Comparatively, we learned more about the deep culture and artistry of intricate totem poles, offering a glimpse into indigenous heritage than we would have on our own.

Creek Street was next on our tour of Ketchikan. Taking bus from Totem Bight Historical State Park to Creek Street was easy as the stop was at the exit of the State Park. Then we took a take a leisurely walk along the iconic Creek Street, once a bustling red-light district in the early 1900s. However, now Creek Street is a delightful collection of colorful buildings over the water teeming with gift shops and museums.

We rounded our tour of Ketchikan with a Lumberjack Show. This show was such a fun and entertaining exhibition of timber sports and lumberjack skills ranging from axe throwing to pole climbing and comedic skits in between. I had no idea that lumberjacking (if that’s a word) was a real sport! Since this was the last tour of the day, when the show was over, shuttles were available to take us back to our cruise.

Juneau

Our Day in Juneau was filled with thrilling adventures. For our first tour of the day, we set out on a whale-watching excursion with this tour. During the summer, the majestic humpback whales come to Alaska to feed with their calves. Did you know that humpback whales are identifiable by the pattern on their tails? Then, the second half of the day, we went on an unforgettable helicopter ride to the awe-inspiring Herbert Glacier. En-route, we caught breathtaking vistas of the Juneau area before landing on the glacier for a unique dog sledding experience.

Skagway

During our time in Skagway we boarded a tour bus and embarked on a journey to the Yukon Territory in British Columbia, Canada. Hence, you will need passports for this tour. We travelled along a windy road with beautiful vistas. The tour route had several stops with ample time to take pictures. Upon our arrival in Fraser, BC, immigration officers boarded the bus to check everyone’s passport. We then boarded Yukon and White Pass Railway back to town winding through aw-inspiring landscapes. Along the way, we learned about the deep history of the gold rush and the arduous journey the prospectors underwent in search of their fortune.

Glacier Bay National Park (Scenic Cruising)

Let me just say that there is no description that prepared me for the sheer beauty of this pristine wilderness. We were awe-struck by Margerie Glacier! Every moment spent on this journey was indeed an invitation to witness the mesmerizing beauty of glaciers. As we sailed through the icy waters, we were greeted by a symphony of shimmering blues and ethereal whites that painted the landscape in an otherworldly palette.

Glacier Bay National Park is a true testament to the raw power of nature. Markedly, the sheer size and grandeur of these frozen giants are humbling, reminding us of our place in the world’s vast tapestry. As we explored Glacier Bay National Park, expert naturalists on boarded our ship and shared their knowledge and insights into the unique ecosystem and history of this awe-inspiring region.

College Fjord (Scenic Cruising)

As we cruised into College Fjord, located in Alaska’s Prince William Sound, we were transported to a world of natural beauty and incredible landscapes. The Glacier names pay homage to renowned Ivy League colleges. This hidden gem of Alaska’s wilderness is renowned for its breathtaking tidewater glaciers that line the shores. The fjord’s icy blue hues, towering ice formations, and pristine wilderness created a scene so magnificent that it felt like stepping into a surreal painting. The serenity and tranquility of College Fjord are unmatched. The serenity and tranquility of College Fjord are unmatched. As as we gently cruised through the calm waters, we felt a sense of peace wash over you.

Arriving in Whittier and Journey to Anchorage

The voyage concluded in Seward, Alaska. From here, we caught a scenic bus journey to Anchorage. A highlight of this journey is passing through the longest single-lane tunnel in North America. As we said goodbye to Alaska’s rugged beauty, we reflected on the unforgettable memories and experiences of this extraordinary adventure.

A 7-day Alaska cruise adventure is a true once-in-a-lifetime experience. From the majestic glaciers to the charming towns, each day presented a new chapter in this epic tale of discovery. Whether it’s marveling at totem poles, witnessing whales in their natural habitat, or traversing glaciers by helicopter, every moment was etched with the beauty and grandeur of the Alaskan landscape. This journey will leave you with memories to treasure forever and a longing to return to the untouched splendor of Alaska’s wilderness.
